Manaaki Oranga was established in 1998, by DeeAnna Ritai its founder and is an affiliated provider
of Tui Ora Limited. Manaaki Oranga first launched as a sole independent Midwifery practitioner, later to
receive company charitable status in 2003. Wrap around maternal health services were secured from Tui Ora
Ltd and complimented the midwifery service DeeAnna delivered up until 2004 when she undertook the Maternal
Mental Health and Alcohol and Drug specialist service.
Manaaki Oranga’s primary objective is to achieve Maori health gains by leading an effective quality health
and social service that meets the needs of communities in Taranaki. A strong focus on primary health and
whanau ora services has been initiated around education and health promotion, maternal health, parenting and
strengthening families initiatives, “Balance Me” child nutrition, and whanau ora training programme, early
screening and “Taranaki Primary Connections” primary mental health services (mild to moderate) including the
Dioxin Primary Mental Health service and specialise service to those mothers suffering mental health and
alcohol and drug problems. The strengthening families initiatives is underway in regards to early
intervention and support to whanau and MOL is underway to achieve the CYF accreditation approval process by
end 2008.
Received QHNZ Primary Health accreditation in 2003 and again in April 2008 achieved QHNZ accreditation in
Primary Health service and for the first time achieved accreditation for the Mental Health service. 2006 Proud
winner of Westpac Chamber of Commerce and Implements “Employer of Choice” Business Award. Located at Maru Wehi
