Youth Transitional Services (YTS) open in Hawera (24 October 2006)
On Tuesday the 24th of October Youth Transition Service (YTS) opened their new office at 4 Union
street Hawera. All three staff are now on board, Maria Hemara-Wahanui Administrator, Wendy Eynon and
Peter Hokopaura are the two Youth Coaches. YTS assist young people throughout Taranaki with their
career choices, and support them to find their own independence through education, training and
eventually employment.

Whanau Disability Hui, Stratford (26 July 2006)
Tui Ora Ltd supported by Apepsi, Disabled Persons Association, New Plymouth District Council,
Taranaki Disabilities Information Trust and AccessAbility hosted the third whanau hui in Stratford
for whanau dealing with a variety of health issues.
The focus for this year was 'making use of existing resources' and the empahsis was about interaction
with health providers from around Taranaki.
The day was well received by all with a fantastic turn out of whanau and health providers with more
than 110 people attending.
A very special mention to Ruth Jones and Gary Williams (Disabled Persons Association), Natasha Gartner
and Roger Jolley (Ministry of Health) who travelled from a far to spend the day with us it was great to
see you all.
There were many providers present who all had a great day interacting with those present and I believe
everyone gained further knowledge and confidence to follow up where needed.
To our ringawera the local branch of the Maori Womens Welfare League, the whanau of Whakaahurangi
(Stratford) a very warm thank you for your manaakitanga and expertise. Nga mihi whakawhetai ki a
koutou, kia ora rawa atu mo nga mahi tiaki tangata.
Ki te whanau whaanui i tae tinana mai ki to taatou hui a whanau, te iti me te rahi, e kui e koro ma
he mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa. Tenei maatou o Tui Ora e tuku mihi atu ki a koutou katoa.

No Sweat Parenting (29 June 2006)
Manaaki Oranga Ltd had the privilege of hosting another No Sweat Parenting event on 29th
June 2006 with New Zealand entertainer Pio Terei and John Cowan of Parents Inc.
Parents Inc. (formerly Parenting with Confidence) was established in 1993 by Ian and Mary
Grant to give information, support and encouragement to New Zealand parents.
Manaaki Oranga, New Plymouth District Council, Barnardos, Maori Providers, Piki Te Ora,
PORSE, St Johns Anglican Church, Plunket, Toolbox to name a few, worked together to bring
the No Sweat Parenting event to New Plymouth for the second year running.
The No Sweat Parenting workshop gave parents and caregivers the opportunity, to collect
fresh ideas and new skills in a relaxed and non-threatening environment.

2006 NZ Junior Touch Team (15 April 2006)
Easter Weekend the New Zealand Touch Black Mixed Team, who is currently ranked no 1 in the world
held their training camp in New Plymouth. Here they are enjoying Waka Ama as part of their
training camp.
