Taranaki Primary Connections (TPC) meets the needs of adults and youth with mild to moderate mental health issues.
These can be characterised by persistent or overwhelming feelings of anxiety, stress and feeling low. Different factors and situations cause these feelings: Relationship and family difficulties, work or educational-related problems, grief or loss.
Taranaki Primary Connections co-ordinates the brief intervention of counselling and psychological support following a referral from a health professional such as a GP or public health nurse or school counsellor.
We assess an individual’s needs and arrange access to a range of qualified counsellors and registered psychologists throughout Taranaki. These include our own TPC therapists. To read more about about the service see our story.
Up to four sessions are available depending on individual circumstances.
If you are a public health nurse, school guidance counsellor, GP or other health professional working with a young person you may download a copy of the youth referral form here.
If you are an adult experiencing mental unwellness - or know of someone else in this situation - a referral to Taranaki Primary Connections must come from a GP.
TPC is a primary mental health service supported by Midland Health Network.
