For the first time Tui Ora will be operating drive thru Covid-19 vaccination clinics in a hook up with health partners TDHB, Pinnacle, and Te Aranga.
The first event will bring the drive thru option to the Waitara community this coming Sunday (20 March) followed by two more events next weekend in Ōpunake (Saturday 26) and Stratford (Sunday 27). All of the events will run from 10am to 3pm.
“With case numbers consistently in the tens of thousands each day a lot of people are feeling nervous about leaving their homes and being out and about,” said Tui Ora, Whānau Ora General Manager, Tamara Ruakere.
“Having your vaccination in your car means your household can stay in your bubble and have minimal interaction with others so we think it’s a good option to offer whānau while Omicron is in the community.”
In-car kai packs, koha vouchers and the chance to win an iPhone 13 are up for grabs for anyone over 12 coming along and receiving a vaccination. An onsite DJ, spot prizes and tamariki kete for the 5-11 year olds getting vaccinated will help complete the whānau friendly vibe.
Paul Cummings, Project Lead for Te Aranga said:
“One thing the pandemic has taught us is that when we work together, we can achieve far better results for our whānau. Particularly with so many people currently positive or self-isolating we need to pool our resources and kaimahi so we can continue to support the community with vaccination and testing.”
Tui Ora Chief Executive, Hayden Wano said:
“We hope to see as many of our whānau turn out in Waitara. Vaccination is the best way to prevent serious illness, protect your families and your whakapapa from COVID-19. We are extremely grateful to the TDHB (Taranaki District Health Board) Pinnacle, Te Aranga - the Ngā Iwi o Taranaki Collective, and our iwi networks for supporting us to make this event possible.”
Tui Ora kaimahi are encouraged to spread the word among their friends and whānau. The dates and times for all of the drive thrus are below:
