About this Service

This service provides alcohol and drug counselling. It is a community outpatient based service provided by trained practitioners who work from our Hawera, New Plymouth and Waitara offices. Services include assessment, counselling and treatment, brief intervention, a peer support service, relapse prevention, referral to residential treatment and AOD education.

Mātanga Tāutoko Ā Aropā  Peer Support 

Our kaimahi (staff) have lived experience of addiction and will walk alongside tangata whaiora, strengthening their wairua, self-worth and resilience. They encourage and educate tangata whai ora to conquer from within and create autonomy. Services are available to adults 18 years and  over, throughout Taranaki. Self-referrals or referrals fom other health professionals are welcome. 

Alcohol & Other Drugs Peer Support includes: 

  • Support via kōrero that is based in lived experience  
  • Wellness &  AOD focused relapse prevention plans
  • Community integration support 
  • Goal setting 
  • Harm reduction 
  • Whānau-centred support

Who is this service for?

Tangata whai ora, 18 years of age and over who have problems with alcohol and/or other substances or gambling.
